Painting and Weathering​

I won't go into a ton of detail here, just the general process. For more details, check out OddViking on YouTube, his techniques for weathering stormtrooper armor work well here.

  1. Spray the parts with a metallic silver paint. Let dry.
  2. Apply a masking agent (I used toothpaste) to the areas you want to be chipped. Let dry.
  3. Spray the parts with a satin white paint. Let dry.
  4. Scrape off the masking agent with a fingernail and/or brush to reveal the silver underneath. (Easiest to do under running water.)
  5. Add additional scratches with 80 grit sandpaper, a file or any other tools.
  6. Assemble everything.
  7. Apply an acrylic wash. Mix a bit of black and brown acrylic paint with water and carefully brush it onto the case, avoiding getting water on any electronics. Wipe off the excess with a towel. Let dry.

Laser Engraved Badge​

This was just an excuse for me to get a cheap laser engraver. The SVG for the badge can be found in the repository and will engrave on a 50mm x22mm (Approx. 2" x 1") metal plate like these.
